Full Description

For generations, Black Castor Oil has been a staple in beauty routines. We use a traditional African method of pressing roasted Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seeds, creating a naturally occurring ash that gives the oil its rich, dark color.

Naturally rich in ricinoleic fatty acids, Black Castor Oil helps nourish hair and hydrate dry skin, while the oil's higher alkalinity, achieved during the roasting process, enhances its scalp-clarifying and refreshing properties. Whether massaged at the base of the scalp and into the roots or applied to dry areas of skin, this deeply conditioning oil is a versatile addition to your routine.

  • Promotes thicker, fuller-looking hair.
  • Helps clarify and refresh the scalp as part of a regular hair care routine.
  • Rich in naturally occurring omegas, minerals, and ricinoleic fatty acids that help condition hair and skin.
  • Hexane-free and crafted using a traditional roasting process.
  • Rich, conditioning texture leaves hair and skin feeling nourished.

Your Questions. Answered.

What time of day should I use Black Castor Oil?

Black Castor Oil can be used whenever it fits your routine best. Many people apply it to the scalp and eyebrows in the evening and leave it on overnight, while others use it during the day on dry areas of skin.

What other products should I be using with Black Castor Oil?

That depends on your goals. Try using Black Castor Oil on your scalp and brows overnight, then use the Rosewater Cleanser and Moisturizer in the morning to start your day with a simple skin care routine.

You can also try one of our Castor Oil blends, such as Cayenne or Ginger.

Does Black Castor Oil contain quality ingredients?

Yes. Heritage Store Castor Oil is made with a single ingredient: Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil. This product is hexane-free, and every ingredient in each of our formulas is reviewed as part of our quality standards before becoming part of a finished formula.

Where is the best place to purchase Black Castor Oil?

You can purchase Heritage Store Black Castor Oil directly from heritagestore.com, where you'll find our full collection of Castor Oil products and formats. Heritage Store products are also available through select natural grocery stores, wellness retailers, and online marketplaces.

Consistency is often more important than quantity, so choose a routine that feels sustainable for you.

Customers Also Ask

How is Black Castor Oil different from regular Castor Oil?

Black Castor Oil is made using a traditional African method of pressing roasted Castor beans. The roasting process produces a natural ash that contributes to the oil's rich color and makes it especially popular in scalp care routines.

Why is Heritage Store Black Castor Oil dark in color?

Its deep color comes from naturally occurring ash created during the roasting process. This is a natural characteristic of authentic Black Castor Oil.

What does naturally occurring ash mean in Black Castor Oil?

When Castor beans are roasted before pressing to extract the oils, a small amount of ash forms and is the source of the rich, dark color. This traditional process gives Black Castor Oil its distinctive appearance and unique character.

How do you use Black Castor Oil on hair?

Massage into the scalp and work through hair from root to tip. Leave on for 20 minutes or overnight, then shampoo and condition as usual to remove any excess oil.

Can Black Castor Oil be applied to the scalp?

Yes. Black Castor Oil is commonly applied directly to the scalp and is especially popular in scalp-focused hair care routines for its clarifying and nourishing properties.

Q&A

Is the oil packaged in a glass container?
Hi there, Yes - our Black Castor Oil comes in an amber glass bottle. Thank you!
Why don’t you use organic castor oil in the black castor oil? Is the black castor oil pesticide-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free?
Hi there! All of our products are tested for herbicides, pesticides, microbes, bacteria, heavy metals, and purity and potency and have to meet U.S. Pharmacopeia Guidelines. We also don’t use any chemicals like parabens and phthalates. Our Black Castor Oil is not certified organic due to cost and availability. Thank you!
How long does the oil stay good and what is best way to store?
Hi there! The expiration date of your castor oil should be printed on the bottom of the bottle. We recommend storing it in a cool, dry place. It does not need to be refrigerated. Thank you!
Hi, I bought this today from Whole Foods. It has a strong smoky smell. Is that normal?
Hi there! Yes - our Black Castor Oil is made from castor beans that have been roasted so it is darker in color and has a smoky scent. Thank you!
Can this type be used for castor oil packs?
Hi there! Yes, technically it can but given it is darker in color and can stain we recommend using our Organic Castor Oil, Lavender Castor Oil or Traditional Castor Oil for Castor Packs instead. Thank you!
