How to DIY a Castor Oil Hair Mask

It’s no secret around here that we love Castor Oil — we brush it onto our brows and lashes every night as a potent nourishing beauty ritual. But did you know the same cold-pressed oil is basically life-changing as a weekly deep treatment for the hair on your head? Not only is it a great excuse to slow things down and indulge in self care for once, but you’ll be left with seriously soft and silky hair when you’re done.  And don’t be scared of the stickiness of castor — we promise, it washes out just as easily as applying it.

Step 1: Liberally pour Castor Oil right into a bowl. Add a few drops of essential oil if you want an extra layer of relaxation, or try out our Lavender Castor Oil.

Step 2: If you have thick or coarse hair, divide your hair in 1-2 inch sections, then using either a hair color application tool or your fingers, work the oil into each section starting from the ends and working your way up to your scalp. If your hair is on the finer side, feel free to just use your hands to apply.

Step 3: Flip your head over and clip your hair so it stays on top of your head, then wrap it all up in a towel. Things can get a little messy, so make sure not to wear your fanciest pajamas.

Step 4: Let your nourishing hair mask sit for at least twenty minutes. Whatever will you do with this time? Maybe indulge in a face mask, or spritz your skin with our cult fave Rosewater

Step 5: Wash and style your hair as usual! And don’t forget to share your results with us at @heritagestorenaturals on Instagram!  We want to see your Castor-luscious locks.

Bonus tip: Feel free to use Castor Oil as a nourishing styling product throughout the week as well! A little goes a long way to add shine and moisture to your hair.
