Mummy Food

1 cup chopped pitted dates                                         ½ cup (or less) yellow corn meal

1 cup chopped dried mission figs                               2-3 cups water


            Combine these ingredients in a sauce pan and simmer over low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring often and adding more water if needed to prevent sticking.  Serve with milk or cream if desired.  This recipe serves 4-8 people, so reduce ingredients by half to serve 2-4.  A convenient way to prevent sticking and have your mummy food ready first thing in the morning is to use the crock pot method.  Some people also like the fine texture of blender-pureed mummy food, while others prefer a chunky consistency.
